Yesterday, the Republicans on the House Financial Services Committee urged Democratic Chairman Barney
Blather Frank to postpone the vote on the remaining TARP money, $350 billion. The Democrats seem to want to waste the remaining TARP funds even quicker than the Republicans do.
In the letter to Frank, the GOP lawmakers quoted that great capitalist Karl Marx: "History repeats itself, first as tragedy and then as a farce."
The letter then went on to say that "it appears Congress is trying to prove Marx correct ... We are again moving far too quickly in considering whether to approve the expenditure of hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars."
I think the GOP lawmakers were quoting the WRONG Marx. In the letter to that liberal windbag Frank, they should have quoted the great
Groucho Marx. Here are a few of Groucho's classic quips, perfect for dealing with the liberal Beltway Blowhard Frank:
"Don't look now, but there's one too many in this room and I think it's you."
"He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot, but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot."
"Now there's a man with an open mind - you can feel the breeze from here."
Here is another reason for Congress not to waste any more TARP money.
Citigroup stock is now trading lower than it was when it received the $52 billion from TARP. Maybe another $52 billion will drive it into backruptcy.
