Shrinking Three Bailout: Insanity v. Arrogance

Ron Gettelfinger, aka Ron Goldfinger, the head of the U.A.W., said yesterday that the critics of The Shrinking Three federal bailout must be  "insane"  for opposing it.
Mr. Goldfinger:

> Are the critics of this boondoogle "money down the drain" bailout insane to demand that we taxpayers shred $14 billion now and probably another $50 to $100 billion next year for companies that are already bankrupt in an economy where nobody wants to buy any cars, including Toyotas?

> Is it insane for the taxpayers, people like me who spend over $10,000 per year on a personal health care policy with deductibles of $10,000 per year, to ask that the U.A.W. trade your gold-plated health care policies for silver -plated ones?

> Is it insane to criticize this bailout of The Shrinking Three - companies that are saddled with incompetent manangement, sacred cows like JOBS banks, high unfunded health care legacy costs, stupid work rules, too many car brands, and bloated dealer organizations?

> Is it insane to ask the union members to make salary concessions sometime in 2009 to bring them in line with "Detroit South" , only to be told "NO" by your union?

> Is it insane to ask the 40 million Americans who do not have health care to subsidize your health care plans?

> Is it insane to wonder what The Shrinking Three will do with the bailout money when the Beltway Blowhards gave tens of billions of dollars  to Bank of America and Citigroup  a couple of months ago only to see these incompetent financial fops announce layoffs of 88,000 employees?

No, Mr. Goldfinger, we are not insane to ask your members to make even more concessions. We are asking you to make significant sacrifices to save your members from self-destruction. The glory decades of GM, Ford, and Chrysler are OVER. Deal with the current reality of this crisis. Union membership in the U.S. has shrunk to an all time low of only 7.5% of the workforce. There must be a reason for this steady decline in union numbers.

Mr. Goldfinger, look in the mirror. We are not insane, but you clearly are
arrogant!
